The industry is changing.

From the impact of platforms like Headway and Alma to outcome-based reimbursements to the influx of AI tools for behavioral health.

The industry is at an inflection point, but that doesn't mean you should leave private practice.

What it does mean is that now, more than ever before, you have to look at your trauma therapy practice as a business.

If that increases your anxiety, you are in the right place.

This program is designed to give you the business knowledge you need to run a successful trauma therapy practice.

A green armchair and side table in Kristen's therapy office

“I believe the therapists who navigate the changes in the industry successfully are not necessarily the ones with the best clinical training. They are the ones who start running their practice like a business.”

Kristen

Maybe you are asking yourself...

  • “If I raise my rate, will anyone actually pay it?”
  • “Can I rely less on insurance without losing my income?”
  • “Where did my referrals go?”
  • “How do I earn more without adding more clients?”
  • “Is private practice still sustainable?”

How much have you invested in your business?

Your clinical training

Add up what you have spent on becoming a trauma therapist.

  • EMDR, IFS, Somatic Experiencing, DBR...the list goes on
  • Consultation hours toward certification
  • Conference registration and travel
  • Continuing Education credits

Your business training

Now add up what you have spent learning how to run the business that all of that training lives inside.

  • Rate Setting
  • Policy Setting
  • Marketing

$0 a year?

For most therapists the honest answer is close to nothing, or if there was an investment, it was generic business advice, not tailored to a trauma therapist.

I now see myself as a practice owner, not just a therapist. I'm thinking differently about how I want to grow, and I feel empowered to create a practice that is sustainable as well as profitable.

Your guide

A note from Kristen

So many business programs for therapists focus solely on transitioning to private pay. In my work with trauma therapists, I've found that isn't always the goal. They want to stay accessible AND build a financially sustainable career.

That's what makes TYTTP different. My goal is for you to have agency over your practice. I want you to feel confident making the best decisions for it, and that starts with understanding your business.

I'm not a guru. I don't know what's best for your business. What I know is what most trauma therapists are missing structurally, and the stories most of us carry about money and worth. If you let me be part of your growth, I'll share what I see and support you in making the best decision for your circumstances.

Why TYTTP

A business course for trauma therapists taught by a trauma therapist.

Five foundations, the business basics you need to know:

01

Financials

What comes in, what goes out, what you pay yourself, and how to calculate a rate you can stand behind.

02

Operations

The policies: sliding scale, cancellations, no-shows, communication between sessions, and the consult call that turns an inquiry into a client.

03

Time Management

Caseload design for the demands of trauma work. Session spacing, recovery windows, setting aside time for your business, and where to find the hours to expand your offerings.

04

Professional Development

How to determine where to invest your time and financial resources, based on a plan (and not because you felt inadequate when sitting with your client).

05

Marketing

The relational nature of your website, the importance of identifying your therapeutic superpower, who you serve and how you help them.

Everyone in the room is a trauma therapist. Every example is a trauma therapy practice.

Owning this type of business is a very niche market and general business guidance doesn't translate to trauma therapy. Kristen's program allowed for clarity and accurate information about my field and how it relates to my business.

Proof

What TYTTP graduates are saying

After working with Kristen I started three groups and filled them, which brought in an extra $1,500. I was also invited to facilitate an EMDR training, which brought in another $3,000. That's a $4,500 increase in revenue in just a couple months. I also booked three intensives with current clients.

A.R., LCSW

Hearing others share some of the same struggles and concerns was very grounding and validating. It was also helpful to hear the bravery of other clinicians stretching out of their comfort zone.

Paulette, LMHC

I raised my rates from $150 to $165, and I also started taking my cancellation and no-show policies seriously. Since then I've raised them again, from $165 to $185 per session. I realize I own a business. Seriously, that informs everything else I do.

Deb Payne, PhD, LCSW

This class helped me feel more confident as a business owner and less isolated as a therapist. I felt supported and valued. It helped me see what I bring to the therapy space.

Jennifer, LMFT

I feel like the class gave me the confidence and tools to reshape my practice into something where my worth and skills are in the forefront.

Meghann Ellis, LICSW

I have a plan and specifically next steps more clearly identified in my mind, I have begun to explore the AI tools, and feel more confident I can do what I intended to do.

Fran N., Licensed Clinical Social Worker

We do not need to sacrifice ourselves and our wellbeing in order to make a difference in the world.

The 8 weeks

What we cover together

1
Financials

Business owner identity and financial basics

Where we claim agency over your business and go over the financial basics: income, expenses and how to set aside money for taxes, time off and retirement.

2
Financials

Understand your value

We break down the insurance-based reimbursement model and why it doesn't accurately reflect your training and experience. We use the Rate Calculator tool to identify your private pay rate and then process what that means for you.

3
Professional Development

Career planning

We look at career progression and professional development through the lens of what's best for your business and your clients. We explore common pitfalls of trauma therapists including selecting trainings based on feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome.

4
Operations

Practice policies

We review the important policies trauma therapists should have and we discuss the nuances of policy communication when working with clients who have experienced relational trauma.

5
Time Management

Schedule optimization

We review considerations for scheduling clients, establishing breaks and discuss modifications for when your personal life demands your schedule changes.

6
Marketing

Marketing part 1

Why a website is the beginning of a relationship, and the work of naming your therapeutic superpower: what someone gets from sitting with you that they do not get from sitting with someone else.

7
Marketing

Marketing part 2

Connect your superpower to who it is for, and learn how to connect to your clients in their language. Plus how being found works now that search starts inside Claude and ChatGPT.

8
Looking ahead

Wrap-up and look ahead

We discuss options for expanding your business: intensives, consultation, supervision, workshops and more.

The payoff

What you leave with

At the end of 8 weeks you will have:

Business model clarity

Clarity on your business model, whether that includes intensives, consultation, groups, courses, or strategic foundational changes.

Rate confidence

Confidence in your rates and language to communicate your value to clients and referral sources.

Policies reviewed

The financial and emotional gaps in your policies closed and increased confidence in communicating them.

Protected time on your calendar

A schedule that works for you, not against you, and time set aside to work on your business.

Confidence in your marketing

A clear understanding of your therapeutic superpower, who you help and how you help them.

Community of support

Colleagues who get the complexity of this work and the unique demands of running a trauma therapy practice.

Finishing does not mean your practice is perfect. It means every foundation has been worked, you know which one is next, and you are the one deciding.

The community aspect was really amazing to have access to. Feeling the energy from other clinicians, seeing how they handled roadblocks and challenges, it was really validating and supportive.

Laura DeCapua, LMFT

The investment

The investment is $895.

About Kristen

A trauma therapist with a business background

Before I was a therapist, I spent 20 years in business. I started in the investment banking department of a brokerage firm and went on to become Vice President of Payroll and Compensation in Human Resources. Then I spent six years managing a yoga studio, where I helped build a 200-hour teacher training program and launch a nonprofit. My undergraduate degree is in Business Administration: Management and Marketing.

I've been in private practice for over a decade working with complex trauma and dissociation. I'm an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and have received my certification in trauma and dissociation from ISSTD. I understand the complexity of the work and the unique demands that face trauma therapists in private practice.

I know how compensation works from the inside. And I know what it feels like to be a highly trained specialist paid as if your training doesn't matter. That is what I bring to TYTTP: a clinician's understanding of what trauma work asks of you, and the business experience to build a practice where the math works.

Honest fit

Who this is for

You are licensed and practicing. Probably five or more years in. Well trained, possibly the person colleagues send their hardest cases to.

This is for you if

  • You have never looked at your practice as a business, or you've attempted and become frustrated
  • Your rate has not changed in a while and you are not sure how to increase it
  • You have policies you do not enforce and need help getting clear
  • You are on the edge of burnout
  • You have an idea of something you want to add, but no path to get there
  • You want to still be doing this work in ten years

Who this is not for

  • Pre-license or pre-practice. The material assumes a practice already running.
  • Anyone looking for clinical training. There is no clinical content in this program.
  • Anyone who wants to be told what to do. You leave with your own decisions, made on your own numbers.

Real questions

Frequently asked questions

I have done a business program before and could not implement it.▼

That's why I have structured this as an 8-week group coaching program. So often, the problem with implementing anything new is a lack of support. Each coaching call includes a didactic presentation and break-out groups to help you get exactly what you need from the program.

Plus, I understand the unique demands trauma therapists face and I've purposely narrowed the information down to the essential business concepts you need to know.

I'm already maxed out. How am I supposed to add 2-hour weekly calls?▼

Honest answer: you'll spend two hours a week on calls plus some implementation time between sessions. If your schedule genuinely cannot hold this, the Foundations Digital Course is a self-paced alternative, or wait until the next round. The cohort runs three times a year.

Are the live calls CE-eligible?▼

No. The Foundations Digital Course that comes with the program is the NBCC-approved piece, worth 4.5 credits. You can complete it during the eight weeks or after.

What are the dates and times of the calls?▼

Fridays from 1 to 3 pm Eastern, March 12 through April 30, 2027.

What if I can't make all 8 calls live?▼

All calls are recorded and available within 24 hours. If your calendar can't hold eight Fridays, the Foundations Digital Course is the self-paced alternative.

Do I have to leave insurance?▼

No, and this program will never tell you to. We treat insurance participation as a decision rather than a default. In-network, out-of-network, using a platform as a biller, Medicare. Some people change their payer mix after this program and some deliberately do not. Both are fine. What changes is that it becomes a choice you made.

How is this different from individual coaching with you?▼

The cohort is where the structural work happens alongside other trauma therapists. Individual coaching is one-on-one and focused entirely on your specific practice. Many do the cohort first, then add individual coaching for deeper support.

Is there a refund policy?▼

Yes. If you join and realize within the first 14 days that this isn't the right fit, email me and I'll refund your investment. No hoops, no guilt. That gives you two full weeks to explore the Foundations course, show up to the first two calls, and get a real feel for the cohort.

The decision in front of you

Right now, a lot of your practice runs by default. Your rate, your policies, your schedule, how people find you. Most of it was inherited, not chosen.

The next 8 weeks are a chance to look at each of those on purpose, with a trauma therapist who has done it and colleagues doing it alongside you. Staying on insurance, going private pay, adding intensives: the decision stays yours. You will just be making it with your own numbers in front of you.

Nothing has to change overnight. What changes is who is deciding.

Next cohort starts March 12, 2027 · Enrollment opens in February

You don't have to choose between doing this work and having financial stability. You can build a practice that affords both.
